Once a tooth is gravely damaged by the cavity it might not be possible to use conservative odontology treatments (filling or inlay) to restore it. In this case the tooth crown must be replaced with a custom-made cup created in the laboratory. Today these crowns are made with a very aesthetic material: zirconia ceramic
Zirconia is also used to create dental bridges where more than one tooth is missing.
Both crown and bridges could be fixed on the original tooth or on implants (see Implantology section).
